Review: Joint Chamber Ladies' Networking Night

The Ladies Networking Night, on February 15th, was an unique opportunity for career-driven women in Shanghai to share, inspire and get connected. Nearly 150 female professionals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines participated in the event.
The first FBCS's Ladies Networking Night was organized in association with China-Italy Chamber, BenCham, Danish Chamber, Malaysian Chamber, the Spanish Chamber, the Swiss Chamber and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

The Embassy of Finland informs - a renewed Catalogue for the Guidance of Foreign Invested Industries enters into force

The Chinese government has published an updated version of the “Catalogue for the Guidance of Foreign Invested Industries”. The new catalogue entered into force on January 30th, 2012 and it replaced the catalogue issued in 2007. In the new catalogue, as before, industry sectors are categorized as “encouraged”, “restricted” or “prohibited” when it comes to foreign investment. However there are changes within these categories, some new industries have been added and some removed.

Review: Joint Chamber - Nordic Innovation Seminar

On Thursday 12.1.2012 around 50 R&D professionals from Nordic and Chinese companies gathered at the Nordic Innovation Seminar to gain insights into successfully R&D and innovation in China. The event was organized by Innovation Center Denmark, Shanghai in cooperation with the Nordic Chambers and Business Associations.

FBCS's China Business Climate Survey 2012, sent out last week, is a comprehensive survey of Finnish businesses in China and will provide valuable insight into the current business environment. Results will be released at our February luncheon seminar.

On the 3rd of December, 300 guests sang along the Finnish national anthem while watching the blue and white flag up in the air. The Independence Celebration, held at the Vizcaya Club three days before the Finnish Independence Day, was hosted jointly by the Consulate General of Finland, FBCS and Shanghai Finns.
The Embassy of Finland informs - Finland proposes negotiations on social security agreement to China

The Finnish government has proposed to the Chinese government that Finland and China enter into negotiations to conclude a bilateral agreement on social security. The proposal was made on the initiative of the competent Finnish authority, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Finnish companies operating in China have expressed their wish for such an agreement to be negotiated.
The agreement to be negotiated would aim to ensure that both employees seconded from Finland to China and employees seconded from China to Finland would be exempted from the old age pension fees of the country to which they are seconded to work. They would thus avoid paying duplicate contributions and their pension security would remain in the country from which they are seconded.

Last Friday, nearly 30 attendees enjoyed the insightful presentation by Mr. Frank Peng, renowned economist in China, who is a professor at both Tong Ji and United Nations International University. He is also the acting director of the World Bank Studies Center of the University.
