The Nordic Chambers and the Nordic Centre at Fudan University in Shanghai are pleased to welcome you and your colleagues to a Breakfast Seminar at Radisson New World Hotel. 
                                                       
China's economy grew by 7.9% in the second quarter and few economists believe that China will not achieve its official full-year target of 8%. The key to growth has been massive bank lending and huge infrastructure investments. Local governments and banks are betting on the future and that world economic growth will accelerate again. But just how sustainable is the current growth model, and what risks are hiding behind the figures?
 
To discuss this and give us some perspective, we have invited Mr Stephen Green, Head of  Research, Standard Chartered Bank in Shanghai to be guest speaker on this Breakfast Seminar on the 23rd of October.

More about the speaker:
Stephen Green is Head of China research at Standard Chartered Bank in Shanghai. The Mainland China research team in Shanghai and Beijing works on China’s macro-economy, rates, FX, financial market as well as commodity market developments. Stephen speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese. Recent reports have focused on China’s labour market, its bond market, the CNY markets, and the outlook for 2008-09.
Stephen’s articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and Far Eastern Economic Review, as well as China Business News (第一财经), New Fortune (新财富), The Economic Observer (经济观 察报) and Global Entrepreneur (环球企业家) magazines. He speaks regularly on Bloomberg, CBN, CNBC and the BBC and is regularly quoted in China’s media.
Previous to joining Standard Chartered, Stephen was Head of the Asia Programme at Chatham House, The Royal Institute of International Affairs, in London, where he worked on China’s industrial and capital market policies. He also worked as the Deputy Editor on The Economist's The World in...magazine for several years, during his Ph.D.. Previous to his graduate research, he worked in rural Kenya and Mozambique, doing relief and development work, as well as teaching. Stephen has a Ph.D. from the Department of Government, London School of Economics, a first class Honours degree from Cambridge University, and a Masters degree from Warwick University. He has been a visiting researcher at Fudan University in Shanghai and at the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. He has also published a number of books, including China's Stock market (Profile Books/The Economist, 2003), China's Stock Market Development,1984-2002: Market Institutions and Equity Politics (Routledge, 2004) and Exit the Dragon: Privatisation and State Control in China (Blackwell, 2005), (Co-editor).
